This newsletter is for the months of March and April 2009. this is the
Districts attempt to keep all of our 5th District Posts informed
on the Legion programs and activities within the District, once you read
this letter, please post this letter for your membership.
Upcoming Dates of interest:
March 1st, Northern Area Oratorical Contest, American Legion
Post 137, 2pm
March 8th, at 2 pm, 5th District Meeting at
American Legion Post 88
March 14th, Post 373 Poker Run, starting at Crackers on
Blanding in O.P.
Breakfast served at 08:00am and kickstands up at 11:00am. For more info
call Bob Brewster 904-635-4492.
March 15th, at 1pm, the Beaches Veterans Association Bar-B-Q
for the USO will be held at VFW Post 3270.
April 5th, at 2pm, 5th District Meeting at American
Legion Post 54
April 11th, at 6pm, the 5th District Past Commander
and Presidents Dinner will be hosted by American Legion Post 88.
April 18, 2009 American Legion Post 233 pig roast at 3:00pm at 560
Wilderness Trail North to help us raise money for a new roof. There will be
some great food so come and join us.
April 25, 2009, NORTHERN AREA BALL at Post 316 starting at 5:30 pm
May 2, 2009 American Legion Post 233 Golf tournament in the morning and a
fish fry at 12:00pm to help raise money for a new roof. Also, were going to
have a silent bake auction so come out and join us
May 3rd, at 2pm, 5th District Meeting at American
Legion Post 137
(If you have an important events at your post and would like to share
them with the District and other post please let me know at the next
District Meeting)
Membership:
The District now stands at 88.62% as of February 26, 2009, our next
target date is really close if your holding cards please turn them In, March
3rd is the dead line to achieve 90%. If you need assistance with
your membership please give me a call; I or one of my Vice-Commanders will
be happy to help.
We have the newest 400 list just for the asking send me an email and I’ll
make sure you get a PDF copy.
Upcoming Events:
The 5th District Commanders and President Dinner will be held
at American Legion Post 88 this year, on April 11th, please call
(904) 396-3754 for reservations.
What’s happening in the District?
A special thanks goes out to our 5th District Chaplain, Bill
Reno, who was able to pull together another awl inspiring Four Chaplain’s
service. Congratulations Bill for job very well done.
Big thanks to Posts 137 and 283 in their continue efforts to assist in
the Blood program.
The Beaches Veterans Association, composed of American Legion Post 129
and 316, Fleet Reserve Post 290, and the VFW Post 3270 have raise over
$8000.00 for the No Dough Dinners held by the Mayport USO for all E-4’s and
below and their families. Their continue efforts in supporting the Mayport
USO over the past 12 months has had impressive results and we must also
mention that another American Legion Post 233 has requested to take part in
the meal rotation. This has brought 3 Veteran Organizations and 3 American
Legion Posts giving there assistance to the USO in there mission in
servicing Our Active Duty Service Members. Well done.
